We are dedicated to providing refuge to the many abandoned, abused and neglected dogs of our community and placing them in appropriate homes where they are members of the family. We are committed to connecting homeless and neglected animals in need with a forever, loving home, while providing resources to house, transport, and care for these animals. If you have a compassionate heart and a desire to provide temporary homes and care for animals in need, we invite you to embark on a journey of love, growth, and transformation. In addition to our CPR certification, we also have a range of safety protocols in place to ensure that your pets are always safe and secure while in our care.
Welcome to Billie's Buddies Animal Rescue
Walk in the same direction for a bit before crossing paths and turning. This allows the dogs to smell where the other has walked. The pre-adoption program is the fastest track to finding an animal a new home. If you bring your dog to the shelter, know that they CANNOT go into the dog kennels.

Operation Save a Shelter Dog
We have found homes for over 5000 dogs on the last 20 years. The Greater Charlotte SPCA does not own or operate a shelter facility. Volunteers foster all animals in their homes until adopted. Many of our animals come from high-kill shelters and other rescue situations.

This way if either dog shows signs of territory aggression or resource guarding, it is much safer to separate them. If they greet well on leash in the house, drop the leashes and allow them to play. Human interference at this point is only necessary in a few circumstances. If the dogs become overexcited in their play, we can help by asking them to settle or separating and walking them apart a moment until they relax.
We find that fostering gives us the opportunity to assess the animal's personality and needs. This allows us to best match them with the right adoptive family. Also, we are able to provide all care and medical needs for our animals. It enables the animal to develop a happy frame of mind before adoption.
The Greater Charlotte Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) serves the animals and people of Charlotte, NC and the surrounding counties. We are an autonomous organization not affiliated with or supported by any other SPCAs, including the ASPCA. The Greater Charlotte SPCA is a private 501(c)(3) non-profit. All donations are deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Along the way, we prepare them to become wonderful companions by taking the time to socialize them and patiently teaching them to trust.
Or, if one dog becomes overbearing or ignores correction from the other. Then we can step in and calm the situation or remove the offender for a few moments. Otherwise just step back and give gentle verbal praise for appropriate and social play. Petfinder currently includes pets and adoption organizations from the regions listed above.
If everything goes well, no barking, snapping, pulling, or other tense behavior; proceed with allowing the dogs to meet. We can facilitate a more correct greeting by encouraging them to walk circles with each other or even just slowly decreasing the distance while walking parallel. It can be VERY helpful to have another person present to simply observe the body language between the dogs, especially if either handler is unsure what to look for. Keep in mind that the animal shelter is an unnatural environment.
We also spay/neuter each one, provide all inoculations, and ensure that they are in perfect health before being made available for adoption. Monitor all interactions in the home closely, especially when adding back the toys, chews, and beds. Remember, it takes time to learn to live with a new family member.
